President: John M. Holzhüter
Franklin County

Board Member Classification: Private Sector Representative

John’s background includes a MED in business ED (current Kansas Teaching Certification), a MDiv and DDiv.  John also has a variety of certification in “conflict typing”, counseling and mediation.  He is currently the Chaplain for the Northeast Chapter of the Viet Nam Veterans Association.  John has facilitated nearly 500 seminars on “Restorative Justice” in the US and Canada.  In 1998, he designed and piloted a “Restorative Mentoring Program” that has since been used in over 25 locations.  John is also certified as an Offender Workforce Development Specialist which is a certification provided through the Kansas Department of Corrections.  John currently provides consulting services for property and asset management.  He has implemented Winter Center’s property management systems that aim to restore and re-build neighborhoods.  John’s diversity allows for compassionate people focus, effective program outcomes and efficient business models. 

 

Vice President: Fr. Tod Ziegler
Franklin County

Board Member Classification: Private Sector Representative

Fr. Tod is the parish Priest at Sacred Heart Church and School in Ottawa Kansas.  Over the last four years, Fr. Tod has overseen rebuilding funds for the parish and school.  He has worked to encourage parish and community leadership through the installation of a Parish Council.  He has also directed the expansion of a successful annual fund drive for the school.  Fr. Tod completed his seminary studies at Saint Meinrad School of Theology in Indianan, though his heart has always been in rural Kansas.  He grew up in El Dorado, Kansas which instilled in him a great love of agriculture.  He is dedicated to and passionate about social justice and serving the rural Kansas community.

Board Member Classification: Community Representative

Troy currently designs and maintains the website for the Winter Center.  He has experience with GED instruction and in particular with at risk youth.  He has also provided computer maintenance and refurbishing training in outreach training sessions.  Troy has worked for social service agencies for several years and continues to volunteer his time to assist in the building of good within communities.  Troy works with online sale and delivery provision of legal books.

Katey Hayden*
Franklin County    

Board Member Classification: Community Representative

Katey is an Early Child Care Specialist with a dual certification in Early Childhood Education and as an Early Intervention Specialist for children with disabilities.  Katey also has a medical background and completed over 41 nursing clinical hours.  She has previously worked in educational settings where the majority of the students are below poverty and suffer developmental disabilities.  She continues to believe the difference can be made by starting young.  She has a strong desire to bring good to those in communities in poverty and especially to young mothers and children.

Travler Chair
Shawnee County

Board Member Classification: Private Sector Representative

Travler is an Adult Education Specialist and works with the at-risk and low income population.  He has specific skill in relationship building with youth and adults with distrust of institutional settings.  This skill allows for successes in the classroom where previously students have encountered failure.  Travler also has experience in Facilities Maintenance and Restoration and is a Restorative Mentor and Field Supervisor for special projects and work-study participants.  Travler provides self-defense training for survivors of abuse and for mothers-and-daughters and fathers-and-sons groups.  Travler also has a passion for sign language and languages in general, including Chinese and his native tongue Cherokee Indian. 

Adam Kelne
Douglas County

Board Member Classification: Public Sector Representative

Adam is a Visual Arts Education Teacher at Baneker Elementary School, a public school in the KCK District.  He has recently received his Masters in Art Education.  He works with children from low income communities.  He is focused on revitalizing the community to bring education into the real lives of the youth he serves.  He has initiated a Community Signs project whereby the 5th graders design and create business signs for the community businesses in the school’s neighborhood.  The kids are then invested in the neighborhood and learn throughout the process.  The neighborhood is also enlivened by the youth’s creation.  Adam brings this same passion to the Winter Center board and provides a wealth of knowledge in community development and partnership building as well as artistic abilities and instructional skill. 

Nina McEntire*
Franklin County

Board Member Classification: Community Representative

Nina is an advocate for seniors and young families.  She believes all persons deserve access to food, education and a good home.  She is a resident of a Section 42 Tax Property where she is the Food Bank Coordinator.  Nina is a passionate and active member of her neighborhood and works to bring her neighbors together to create a place they can all call home. 

John Merchant
Brown County

Board Member Classification: Public Sector Representative

John is currently the Property Manager for the Pemberton Village I and II.  He is dedicated to serving the needs of those in his community.  The complexes provide housing for mostly seniors and those with disabilities.  John is also an advocate within the community and is a Police Officer with the local Police Department where he conducts child safety seat inspections and also installations. 

Jennifer Persing
Jefferson County

Board Member Classification: Private Sector Representative

Jennifer is the President of Simplete Advertising, Inc.  She provides marketing and consulting services for development and management companies.  Jennifer is business savvy with a compassionate heart.  She is an advocate for seniors and for children without families.  She is a resident of rural Jefferson County where she cares for her land and enjoys the wonder of nature. 

Phyllis Weber
Shawnee County

Board Member Classification: Public Sector Representative

Phyllis works for Kansas Social and Rehabilitative Services.  Phyllis has a genuine desire to help those in need and a passion for fair housing.  She was an advocate and champion for Topeka City Homes and continues to advocate for affordable housing models that justly serve those in need.
