This service
pairs up 'well loved' donated vehicles (in need of minimal repair) with folk in
need of 'wheels'. We fix 'em up and send them to their new homes in working
condition (character dents and dings included.) We have had donations of cars, trucks and even an van with a wheel-chair lift and a mobile home!
Unlike some programs, where donated vehicles are sold for program revenue, all donations are paired with deserving recipients who have written an essay on how this can change their lives. These life-stories are reviewed by the Hoopty committee and a case manager works with the participant to ensure that the necessary "valid drivers licience and proof of insurance" are in place in time for the "Hoopty Homecoming".
With
recent changes in tax laws,
Without transportation, getting and keeping a job can be almost impossible!
That was the case for Ketti. She was working hard to support herself and her
daughter, but without a dependable car she could not work the hours she needed.
Thanks to a generous donation from Linda, Ketti can make choices
about her professional life that are not dependent on the bus schedule or friends
with vehicles. She can even spend more time with her daughter!
